4X Scope Sensitivity Guide
At 4X, small thumb movements become large crosshair movements. Most players set this slider far too high and then blame recoil for the result.
What 4X demands
4X is a deliberate optic. It is for holding an angle, taking controlled bursts and tracking a target that is not on top of you.
That means the value should let you make small, precise corrections. If a slight thumb tremor moves you off the target, the value is too high — no amount of practice compensates for a slider that amplifies noise.
The hold test
Scope in at a stationary object about sixty metres away and try to hold the crosshair perfectly still for five seconds. Then move one target width left, and stop.
If you cannot stop on the target width cleanly, lower by five and repeat. This test finds a workable 4X faster than any amount of match play.
Recoil versus sensitivity
Long bursts at 4X climb, and players often raise sensitivity to chase the target back down. That is the wrong fix: it makes the correction harder to control.
Shorten your bursts instead — three to five rounds, brief pause, reacquire. Then tune sensitivity for the reacquire motion.
Movement while scoped
Scoped movement is slow and predictable, which makes you an easy target at range. Use cover, take your burst, then break the scope rather than walking forward while magnified.
A comfortable 4X value plus disciplined peeking wins more long-range trades than a high value ever will.
- Pre-aim the angle before you scope in
- Burst, then unscope and reposition
- Do not chase a target you have already lost — reset instead
- Tune with the rifle you actually carry

Questions about this guide
Usually the value is too high for a magnified view. Lower it in steps of five and repeat the hold test.
