Free Look Sensitivity Guide
Free Look is the slider players ignore and then wonder why they keep getting third-partied. It costs nothing to set well and it changes how much of the map you see.
What Free Look is
Free Look lets you swing the camera around while your character keeps running in the same direction. The slider controls how far the camera turns for a given swipe.
It is purely a look control — it never affects your aim while firing or scoped, which is why a high value carries almost no downside.
Why most players set it high
A high Free Look lets you check behind you with one short swipe instead of three, so you spend less time not looking where you are going.
The main use is rotating across open ground: run toward cover while sweeping the camera behind and to the sides for anyone following you.
When lower is better
If you use Free Look to line up a precise approach angle, or you find yourself disoriented after a swing, a slightly lower value gives smoother, more readable camera movement.
Very large screens can also make a maxed value feel disorienting. Drop it ten points and re-test if that describes you.
Building the habit
The setting only helps if you use it. Make a rule for a few sessions: every time you cross open ground, sweep the camera behind you once.
- Sweep behind when rotating between zones
- Check flanks before entering a building
- Watch a downed enemy's likely teammate direction while repositioning
- Never Free Look during a fight you are already in — you need your aim controls
