Two-finger layouts need larger, closer buttons. Four and five-finger layouts spread fire, jump and crouch toward the screen edges so index fingers can reach them without covering the view.

Layout principles

Follow these rules before you fine-tune positions.

• Never overlap the aim drag area with a button
• Keep crouch and jump reachable without lifting your aim finger
• Scale button size down once you can hit it reliably
• Mirror the layout for left-handed play

Test in training ground

Spend one session only pressing buttons — no aiming. If you miss a button once, move it before you judge your sensitivity.

Step-by-step layout test on a real phone

Hold the phone the way you actually play, in landscape, with any grips or a controller clip attached, then place each button while holding that grip rather than resting the phone on a table. A layout built on a flat table often sits differently once your hands are wrapped around the sides in a real match.

Common HUD mistakes and their symptoms

A fire button placed too close to the scope button causes accidental scope toggles mid-fight, which shows up as your camera suddenly zooming during a gunfight for no clear reason. A crouch button placed under the aim-drag zone causes your thumb to nudge it while aiming, producing random crouches that break your drag headshot rhythm.

How HUD size interacts with sensitivity

A larger fire button gives you a bigger safe-tap zone but eats into the drag space available for General and Red Dot aiming, so if you increase button size, you may need to lower General slightly to keep the same effective drag distance across the remaining screen area.

When a custom layout is not worth it

If you play mostly casual or clash squad and rarely reposition mid-fight, the default or a lightly adjusted layout is usually enough; heavily customised layouts pay off mainly in ranked play where split-second button access matters more than screen aesthetics.
